Daily Chess Problem PDF Print E-mail

There is now a daily chess probelm on this site. Each day you will find 3 new problems. Some are far too easy even for beginners but a few can be a bit tricky.

If you like playing chess it is good to know about the Free Internet Chess Server. There are other really good chess servers but you often have to pay to play on them. The Free Internet Chess Server (called FICS) is at freechess.org. Even better you don't need to play; you can watch Grandmasters and others play. You can either play online in your browser with a Java tool or download any of several different free pieces of software. At the moment my favourite 'graphical chess interface' is BabasChess available through either BabasChess or  the homepage of freechess.org. Logging on and playing a game against someone of your own strength is easy!

Director problems PDF Print E-mail
Because Shockwave Director doesn't work on 64 bit systems (linux and Windows) I've started the laborious job of moving over to WireFusion. This is probably a better product anyway as it costs less and does slightly more with simple 3d interactions and objects. It also uses Java so doesn't require a plugin as long as this is on the machine. However it does seem to break if large textures are used and some interactions do seem to be a bit temperamental.

Humour PDF Print E-mail

It is very important for you to realise that no one involved in any way with this site has any sense of humour at all. Not any. Not a bit. Not even the littlest smidgeon of any sense of the most minuscule bit of humour whatsoever.

Welcome PDF Print E-mail

Welcome to the john carling site

Welcome to the johncarling.com website.  This part of the site is run by a content management system so if you don’t like the look and feel you can change it with the dropdown below at the side somewhere. Sometimes you may have to login to see it.

If you want to add something to the site you can register and start writing or uploading pictures. It is very easy to do and you don't need any html skills or to have edited a website before. We don't allow spam or any offensive remarks, but pretty much anything else goes in some parts.

Links down the side will take you to other areas of the site. Make sure you check out the cool 3d in various sections. At the moment most work is going into the Historic Houses section but the stage lighting simulation and anatomy work is also worth looking at.  Be aware that some of the 3d work will not work on every computer. Some requires you to have Java installed and some needs the free Adobe Director Shockwave plugin.

You can find out more by looking at the frequently asked questions or FAQs link.
